ÂÜÀòžž

At ÂÜÀòžž Christian School, Computing Technology involves the application of creative gifts to solve problems and develop digital solutions with the use of computer-based technologies.

The course is taught primarily through practical learning and projects. Each project will include the development of thinking skills, social and cultural awareness, technical knowledge and skills, and project management, and also considers the biblical framework which underpins the use of digital technology. Students will be encouraged to examine how their use of technology is shaping their worldview.

What are some of the projects I will do?

Building and programming mechatronic systems on Arduino, Raspberry Pi or LEGO-based hardware.

What skills do I need have?

There are no prerequisites for the study of Computing Technology. It is an elective course which builds upon the knowledge, skills and experiences developed in the Year 7 and 8 Technology courses.

Do I need to have programming or coding experience?

No! The course is designed to cater for those that new to programming, but also actively develops the skills of students that have experience with visual or text-based programming languages. If you want to learn to code, or want to improve your existing skills, this is the course for you!

What programming languages will I learn?

You will use either Scratch-like block coding initially for coding the LEGO-based robots or a text-based language for Arduino or Raspberry Pi. There will be an emphasis on learning Python. Python is a great introductory language for programming and has the added benefit of being a language actively used in industry (Instagram, Spotify, Amazon, and Facebook all use Python). Other languages may be explored in Year 10, but they will build on the foundations laid in learning Python. This will be especially beneficial for student looking at Stage 6 Software Engineering in the future, where Python is mandatory.
